(PhatzRadio / CBC Sports) — Canadians Mikael Kingsbury and Alexandre Bilodeau finished 1-2 on Thursday in a World Cup moguls event at Deer Valley, Utah.
Kingsbury, from Deux-Montagnes, Que., finished the course with 25.90 points to take gold, while Montreal’s Bilodeau took silver with 25.60.
“The final was pretty strong today,” said Kingsbury. “I had to push the limit and do my two big jumps and it went well and here, for me, it’s one of the biggest events, like the Super Bowl of freestyle skiing every year.”
Norway’s Vinjar Slaaten won bronze with 25.05.
Marc-Antoine Gagnon of Terrebonne, Que., was fifth with a score of 24.38, Cedric Rochon of Saint-Sauveur, Que., was ninth with 23.44 and Phillipe Marquis was 11th with 23.20 points.
The gold medal ties Kingsbury with American Jeremy Bloom for the World Cup moguls record of six consecutive wins.
In women’s moguls, American Hannah Kearney won gold with 25.21 points, while countryman Heather McPhie was second (24.77) and Australian Britteny Cox third (22.84).
Montreal’s Chloe Dufour-Lapointe was the top Canadian, placing fifth with 23.42 points. Audrey Robichaud of Quebec City was eighth (23.03), while Chelsea Henitiuk of Spruce Grove, Alta., was ninth (22.95).
Maxime Dufour-Lapointe, also from Montreal, was 14th (20.55).
