FC DALLAS 3, HOUSTON DYNAMO 2
(PhatzRadio / AP) — FRISCO, Tex—Kenny Cooper’s 90th minute goal gave FC Dallas a 3-2 win over Texas rival the Houston Dynamo FC at FC Dallas Park Sunday.
Michel sent along ball over the top from 35 yards out. Cooper went up and brought the ball down with his body, and his upper arm, before teeing up a right footed strike to win the game.
George John gave the Hoops the lead in the 34th minute. After Cooper was fouled, Michel teed up the free kick, sending it into a scramble in the penalty area. Houston’s Bobby Boswell and John went up for it. The ball hit Boswell and bounced off the back of John’s head and into the net.
A minute later, FCD doubled their lead. David Ferreira whipped a corner kick into the six yard box. Andrew Jacobson easily shed defender RIcardo Clark and redirected the ball with his right foot into the goal.
But, late game leads are never safe for Dallas. In the 79th minute, Houston, fresh off a devastating CONCACAF Champions League loss to Santos Laguna on Wednesday, pulled one back. Kofi Sarkodie battled down to the end line, getting around two Dallas defenders and laying the ball back to Andrew Driver, who laced a 20-yard shot off the crossbar and down into the goal.
Less than five minutes later, the Dynamo tied it up. Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez could not hold onto a shot by Driver, and Brad Davis was there to slam in the equalizer.
FC Dallas leads the MLS West at 2-1-0. The Dynamo fall to 1-1-0.
CHIVAS USA 1, LOS ANGELES GALAXY 1
CARSON, Calif.—Sunday’s 1-1 draw between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA was more like a typical basketball game than a SuperClasico. Wait till the last few minutes for something to happen.
After playing more than 40 minutes with a man advantage, the Galaxy (1-0-1) took the lead in the 83rd minute. AJ DeLaGarza made a run down the right side and did a short give-and-go with Sean Franklin. DeLaGarza got the ball back and sent it to Mike Magee, whose shot was deflected. The ball popped up and Jack McBean twisted to get his head on the ball and slip it just under the crossbar.
It took just six minutes for Chivas USA (1-1-1) to find the last-gasp equalizer. Eric Avila popped the ball forward to Carlos Borja on the right side of the penalty area. Borja sent a low cross into the penalty area that was met by a charging Carlos Alvarez who put a left footed shot into the lower corner of the net.
The tie marks only the second time in their last nine meetings that the Goats have not lost to their cross-stadium rival. The Galaxy holds an 18-4-7 advantage over Chivas in all games and 16-4-6 in the SuperClasico.
The Galaxy went a man up in the 40th minute, following a controversial red card to Chivas’ Joaquin Velázquez.
