1, LOS ANGELES GALAXY 1

CARSON, Calif.—Sunday’s 1-1 draw between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA was more like a typical basketball game than a SuperClasico. Wait till the last few minutes for something to happen.

After playing more than 40 minutes with a , the Galaxy (1-0-1) took the lead in the 83rd minute. AJ DeLaGarza made a run down the right side and did a short give-and-go with Sean Franklin. DeLaGarza got the ball back and sent it to , whose shot was deflected. The ball popped up and Jack McBean twisted to get his head on the ball and slip it just under the crossbar.

Borja sent a low cross into the penalty area that was met by a charging Carlos Alvarez who put a left footed shot into the lower corner of the net.

The tie marks only the second time in their last nine meetings that the Goats have not lost to their cross-stadium rival. The Galaxy holds an 18-4-7 advantage over Chivas in all games and 16-4-6 in the SuperClasico.

The Galaxy went a man up in the 40th minute, following a controversial red card to Chivas’ Joaquin Velázquez.

Bundesliga Roundup: Dortmund overwhelmes Freiburg

(PhatzRadio / Digital News) — Dortmund – The Bundesliga demonstrated again that is at par with the top European leagues, with capacity crowds and nail biting action.

Dortmund overwhelmed the Bundesliga’s surprise team with two strikes each by Robert Lewandowski and Sahin.

That wasn’t the only surprise this week, Schalke 04 was ousted by Nuernberg 3-0, Augsburg won three points in an away match against Hamburg, while Hoffenheim and Mainz parted in a scoreless tie. Greuther Fuerth walked away with its ninth draw of the season, with a 2-2 tie against Bremen. In Friday’s opener Duesseldorf and Wolfsburg parted in a 2-2 draw.
The top three clubs in the league saw no change in their standings, while Schalke dropped from fourth into fifth spot. Mainz moved into sixth spot on goal difference over Hamburg. The relegation zone is well established. Augsburg gained two important point on Hoffenheim, while Greuther Fuerth each earned a point with their draws.
In the 2nd Bundesliga front runner Hertha BSC Berlin leads Eintracht Braunschweig by one time and these two clubs lead the rest of the pack by 15 and 14 points respectively. They should both be sporting their trade in the top flight next season. Greuther Fuerth is all but guaranteed relegation, while Augsburg and Hoffenheim are separated by four points, leaving the relegation with the third place club in the 2nd Bundesliga still up for grabs.

VFL Wolfsburg vs Fortuna Duesseldorf 1-1

Duesseldorf’s Bolly struck in the 37th minute for 1-0 half time lead. Wolfsburg’s Olic got the equalizer in the 51st minute. Although Tesche hit the crossbar an Shahin spoiled the chance for the winning goal near the end, Wolfsburg saved a point.

1. FC Nuernberg vs FC Schalke 04 3-0

Nuernberg dealt a blow to Schalke with three unanswered goals by Feulner in the 3st, Esswein in the 69th and Frantz, in the 87th minute. While Schalke was ridden by bad luck when Howedes ball hit post and Obasi missed the target, Nuernberg was instrumental with excellent counter attacks. Nuernberg remains undefeated in ten matches at home. Schalke drops into fifth spot and Nuernberg moves into 11th, well ahead of the relegation zone.

1899 Hoffenheim vs FSV Mainz 05 0-0

The first half of the match could be described as boring and with very little movement. Mainz had the opportunity to move ahead from a standard situation, but to no effect. Hoffenheim does little with their domination in ball possession. The game picked up in the second half and Mainz had a slight advantage over the Sinsheim side and hit the post twice and spoiled a third opportunity to score. In the end it boiled down to a scoreless draw. The point moves Mainz up into sixth spot, while Nuernberg remains in 11th.

Borussia Dortmund vs SC Freiburg 5-1

Two strikes by Robert Lewandowski and Sahin, followed by Bittencourt ensured a 5-1 roust over the side from the Breisgau. Sahin scored his second of the night in the 73rd minute, while Bittencourt put the nail in the coffin in the 78th minute. Dortmund’s performance demonstrated that the side will be hard to beat if it is in form. Freiburg remains in eighth spot, while Dortmund remains in second.

Hamburger SV vs FC Augsburg 0-1

This was an important victory for Augsburg in the battle to avoid relegation. Callsen-Bracker got the early goal in the eight minute and Augsburg managed to fend off Hamburg after that to hang on to the win. Hamburg operating in a panic seldom had any dangerous shot on goal. Augsburg has gained valuable points and a four point lead over Hoffenheim in the relegation battle.

Werder Bremen vs SpVgg Greuther Fuerth

Bremen’s goals came as a result of two penalty kicks executed by Aron Hunt in the 47th and 62nd minute. Bremen’s first penalty gave the Hanseaten a 1-0 lead at half time. Ten minutes after the break Furstner got the equalizer in the 56th minute. Fuerth’s second goal came in the 62nd minute, with Piestos as the scorer. Hunt again got the equalizer on another penalty kick in the 70th minutes. The point didn’t help either team much, with Bremen 13th place and Fuerth at the bottom of the league.

Bayer Leverkusen vs FC Bayern Muenchen 1-2

FC Bayern edged out three points and won its 12th consecutive away game. Gomez scored the go ahead goal in the 37th minute, giving the Bavarians a 1-0 half time lead. Leverkusen go the equalizer with Rolfe’s goal in the 75th minute. A free kick by Bastian Schweinsteiger resulted in the winning goal after Leverkusen’s Wolfscheid deflected it past his goalie. This was a bitter loss for Leverkusen, a side that took the game to Bayern. Bayern maintains it 20 point lead with 69 points, while Leverkusen remains in third spot, trailing Borussia Dortmund by four.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs VFB Stuttgart 1-2

Aigner secured the 1-0 halftime lead for Frankfurt in the 17th minute. Stuttgart struggled though the remainder of the first 45 to get an equalizer. Four minutes in the second half, in the 49th minute, Ibisevic’s freekick finds the rear of the net for the equalizer. Niedermeyer secured the win with a header in the 71st minute. Frankfurt pressed offensively for the remaining 20 minutes, but Stuttgart’s defense was steady. The win move Stuttgart into 12th place, away from the relegation zone. Frankfurt remains in fourth.

Borussia MoenchenGladbach vs Hannover 96 1-0

Hannover continues to have difficulties with away games, having lost 12 away games now. Gladbach got the lead on deJong’s goal in the 36th minute. Although the Hannover side put on the pressure in the last phase of the game, a send off of daSilva Pinto in the 85th minute sealed the Hannover fate.
