Porn Star Profile Update: AVN – Sunny Lane

c1b0e12e6a80f4f75549eba11f160fd4

Sunny Lane Age: 31 Height: 5' Weight: 100 lbs. Measurements: 34C-24-34 Hair color: Blonde BIOGRAPHY Born in Georgia and raised in Florida, Sunny Lane has been an entertainer almost all of her life. The energy burning bright in her megawatt smile and glowing sensuality is a powerful combination of dedication, determination and desire. "Well, I've always been focused and had goals and dreams," says Lane. "You've got to do that to make it all happen. You have to be a risk taker." As a competitive ice skater, Lane spent her childhood on the national circuit, rising to the level of regional champion. An only child, Lane has strong family ties. Her parents, married for 29 years, took her on summer vacations to Disney World and Yellowstone. Lane was a member of the local Brownie troop and her mother sewed her skating costumes. "My parents were very big on me getting a good education and finishing school," Lane recalls. "I had to have good grades to be able to skate. Theyare very open-minded, strong willed people that taught me great morals of life and love. I was raised with a great work ethic, in an honest family upbringing; I don't lie, cheat or steal." Sunny suffered potentially career-ending injuries in a car accident at the age of 16, but defied the doctors' diagnosis to go on and compete, while also coaching young ice skaters and operating her own yoga and Pilates studio. Eventually, health issues caused her to reevaluate the goals of remaining a pro athlete and coach. "I had to rethink my career and where I was going, and what I would be able to do. I wanted to continue entertaining; show my creativity, tell a story and entertain people to keep them smiling. I thought about how I'd be able to continue doing all this, and that's when becoming an exotic dancer came to mind," Lane explains. Natural and charismatic, Lane hit the stage in 2004, winning Déjà Vu Showgirl of the Year and beginning her ascent into the world of adult entertainment. After attending the AVN Awards show, she felt herself gravitating towards adult celebrities and industry insiders. "I was intrigued and impressed by the people I met and could see how real and open-minded they were. I liked the way they were able to combine entertainment and business with sexuality, because I have always been a very sexual person," Lane says. Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlight Bunny Ranch, the Nevada brothel featured in HBO's Cathouse reality series, was one of the people Lane met and with whom she eventually started a personal relationship. After several months of promotions and assisting Hof with the business, they parted. Lane continued forward with her career. As Nightmoves Calendar cover girl for 2005, Lane attended an industry event where she met Farrell Hirsch, executive producer of Playboy Radio. Noting Lane's girl-next-door looks and homegrown personality, he offered Lane a chance to come to LA, accompanied by her mother, to guest star on the … [Read more...]

Network Solutions Posts .XXX TLD Page, Responds to XBIZ Queries

HERNDON, Va. — Network Solutions, one of the world's top five domain registrars, has gone live with a "Be ready for the launch of .XXX!" webpage, marketing the virtues of the sTLD that hasn't yet been green lighted by ICANN. ".XXX will be launching shortly and Network Solutions is working with ICM Registry to provide informational services for our customers that wish to take advantage of the launch and register domain names," Network Solutions says on the webpage. The registrar, which has more than 6.7 million domains under management, goes on to say that "those voluntarily identifying themselves as compliant with a comprehensive set of Best Business Practices that are part of the registry policies can provide more predictable revenue streams, greater customer retention and fewer complaints, as regulators and others will see adult entertainment providers take a proactive and responsible approach to their web presence." Network Solutions spokesman Shashi Bellamkonda told XBIZ that the company is simply gearing up for a possible .XXX roll out if it is approved at ICANN's general board meeting on Friday, March 18. "At this time, we are preparing for a possible launch of .XXX just like we would for any new domain," he said. "Being a leader in the domain industry, we constantly look for opportunities that can help our small business customers. "ICANN will determine whether .XXX will get the green light and we will support the launch of .XXX if and when it gets approved." With the decision to launch a "be ready" site, Bellamkonda said that Network Solutions has been working with ICM Registry to offer customers "the opportunity to protect their brand with .XXX domains." "As with any other domain extension that gets launched in the marketplace, we will support the extension if we believe that it brings value to our customers," he said. … [Read more...]

Did Shelley Lubben Blow the Cambridge Porn Debate?

f0f666d19c54099adff899297348c6d4

CAMBRIDGE, England—Debates on pornography have become so common in the States that you can buy tickets to them on Goldstar. (Not really.) In Merry Old England, however, they apparently still generate a hullabaloo, which also means a packed house, as was the case Thursday night on the storied campus of Cambridge University, in the Cambridge Union, where the pro and con sides faced off in a contest that pitted, if we may be so bold, open-minded libertarians against closed-minded autocrats. According to Cambridge First, which was on the scene, the place was “sweltering despite the cold outside as students sought to find any corner they could squeeze into to watch the debate.” The site says that the “headline act,” such as it was, was the self-proclaimed former porn star/prostitute/junkie/hustler and current anti porn crusader, Pink Cross Foundation founder Shelley Lubben (photo, left). Those of us who are fortunate enough to have witnessed a Lubben performance in person—at a CalOSHA meeting, perhaps—or even on tape—in the new documentary The Devil and Shelley Lubben, say—know that over-the-top Lubben histrionics are inevitable. The woman simply has an itch that can’t seem to be scratched, even when she is addressing an audience from one of the oldest and most revered universities in the world. Who knows, maybe she has a thing for student bodies, but Thursday, according to Cambridge First, she apparently punted instead of scoring. The evening was not just about having a good debate; a proposition was put before the gathering: “This house believes that pornography does a good public service,” it stated, and in the end it passed by 44 votes, reportedly due to Lubben’s lunacy. “For this much-publicized debate,” Cambridge First reported, “the proposers were Britain’s first female porn director Anna Span (photo, right), teacher-cum-porn star Johnny Anglais, and self-professed ‘sexademic’ Jessi Fischer; the opposers, born-again-Christian and ex-porn star Shelley Lubben, feminist activist Dr Gail Dines, and child psychologist Dr Richard Woolfson." The tone of the evening was set by Span, who, as Anna Arrowsmith, ran unsuccessfully for Parliament last year. She opened the debate with an accusation that “moral entrepreneurs” were using “thinly-veiled, conservative arguments” to inflict a “fully-fledged moral panic.” However, Cambridge First reported that for much of the evening, the opposers were making headway with the students. “Despite the porn’s eventual victory in the house, the opposition’s arguments seemed the stronger up until the home straight. Broadly-speaking, [their] counter-points were pornography harms children and degrades women.” The proposers’ arguments, on the other hand, centered around the claims that “pornography empowers woman and is a good education tool.” “The problem is not pornography,” Fischer said at one point. “The problem is our immature … [Read more...]

Adult Anti-Piracy Movement Gains Steam

LOS ANGELES – Amidst the speed networking, award show buzz and deal-making that took place at the XBIZ LA, a group of adult entertainment studios gathered to discuss digital content piracy. For the second time in five months, adult studio Pink Visual coordinated the Content Protection Retreat, an event that provides attendees with intensive educational workshops covering a broad selection of piracy-related topics, including commonly-held misconceptions about the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the copyright registration process, site-operator litigation, end-user litigation and the subtle legal and technical differences between the various content distribution platforms and mediums favored by pirates. “I was completely blown away,” said Shap, owner of Twistys.com. “I’ve never come away from an industry event having learned as much as I did from the content retreat. As a company we’ve spent [and continue to spend] millions producing content. I was embarrassed how little I knew, how little I spend and how little I do to protect that content. I had no idea of the options and tools that are available to content owners to protect their content and monetize it more effectively. I can’t emphasize how valuable the content retreat was for us. If all content producers attended the content retreat just once we’d all benefit from this. Thank you, Allison and crew.” CPR2 also gave attendees the opportunity to learn about the FSC's Anti-Piracy Action Program initiative, including an in-depth demo of the digital fingerprint filtering technology employed by APAP to detect and prevent infringement at the moment of content upload. The software, which is already widely in use among mainstream site operators and content producers is normally very expensive, but the FSC negotiated a deep discount for adult studios who sign up through APAP, and is offering the fingerprinting and monetization filtering free of charge. The FSC also announced that the take-down and watermarking service Porn Guardian has been included into the APAP program to focus on cyberlockers and BitTorrent sites. Content removal services were also well-represented at CPR2, as attendees were afforded the chance to discuss the services offered by the technology-based take-down service Degban, the digital rights management and watermarking service vendor BuyDRM, manual site review and take-down service provider Take Down Piracy, European end-user monitoring and litigation firm Media-Protector, and PornGuardian. “All of these services have evolved beyond what might come to mind when someone says ‘digital fingerprinting’ or ‘DRM’ or ‘take-down service,’” said Allison Vivas, president of Pink Visual. “Meeting directly with these companies and litigators really helps studios to craft a comprehensive anti-piracy strategy, because in order to know what’s right for your particular company, you have to reach an understanding of what your options are, … [Read more...]

3 Porn BitTorrent Suits Squeezed in Texas

d3829c504eb9b7dd792e0fd3b2d82999

DALLAS — Another federal judge has decided to scrutinize BitTorrent cases in Texas. U.S. Judge Royal Furgeson is considering appointing attorneys to represent the John Does in a number of mass copyright litigation cases, three of which involve adult entertainment companies. Furgeson last week said that after further consideration he wants the Does represented by counsel before discovery motions. In his order, Furgeson noted the Does in these cases are unlikely to have any idea a lawsuit has been filed or that the plaintiff is seeking their identity. Appointing an attorney for limited purposes is one way to ensure that the Does receive the same constitutional protections that apply to all litigation defendants. The three adult company BitTorrent suits involve Serious Bidness, which is suing 109 for "Kayla Kleevage"; Adult Source Media which sued 247 for "Hot for Teachers"; and BrokeAmateurs.com, which is suing 168 for several scenes. "[B]ecause the defendants' identities have yet to be ascertained, the Does cannot represent their interests before this court," he ruled in each case. Furgeson has ordered in each case that the plaintiff explain, by Feb. 28, why the court should not appoint attorneys to represent the Does in responding to the plaintiff's request for permission to send out subpoenas for the Does' identities. In some of the cases, the court vacated earlier rulings authorizing such subpoenas, which means the Does' service providers are no longer required to respond to subpoenas they may have already received. … [Read more...]

Playpen.com Launches Innovative Adult Social Entertainment Site

SAN FRANCISCO—Playpen, an adult social entertainment site that empowers models to safely, discreetly and directly engage their fans, has announced that the company has officially launched its much-anticipated platform. By merging the social engagement of Facebook with the connectivity of Twitter and wrapping it around a dynamic adult marketplace similar to eBay, Playpen eliminates middlemen, giving fans direct access to their favorite models, and providing models more control over their content, fan connections and income. “As a former model and entertainer myself, I know that models and fans both want a deeper level of connection,” said Playpen founder and CEO James Johnston. “Fans want more access to the girls and guys they fantasize about. Models want more power over the level of access they grant fans and more long-term control over the earning potential that their fan connections can give them. Because Playpen does all of this, and more, the company is set to revolutionize online adult social interaction.” By combining the most critical elements from three of the top social media brands in the industry, Playpen brings social interaction to an entirely new level. Playpen will enable fans to interact with the model of their choice and allow models to upload videos and images, set their own price points, and create custom product offerings dynamically. Models can also embed product offerings within email and IM sessions. With a powerful internal CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tool, models can manage and maintain their fan connections at all times, which is in keeping with Playpen’s model-empowerment theme. Adult star Brittany Andrews is one of the models who’s looking forward to Playpen’s launch. “I can’t wait to start interacting with my fans more intimately,” Andrews said. “It’s super easy to use so I can spend more time with my fans and focus on giving them what they really want. And Playpen really cares about their models and fans so it’s a completely different experience. There’s a little bit of everything from the adult entertainment world in Playpen and they are giving everyone an all-access pass.” Playpen was founded in 2009 with a vision to build a platform for adult entertainment that empowers models and engages fans through adult social interaction. Each aspect of Playpen was created and is managed by experienced industry veterans. For additional information, visit Playpen.com. … [Read more...]

Adult Industry Supports Safer Internet Day, ASACP

88e2a0f0915001cc4036e7634a251d9a

LOS ANGELES — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection announced plans to host an online fundraiser for the ASACP Foundation on Safer Internet Day Feb. 8. As part of Safer Internet Day, many of the largest Internet companies in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe will reach out to their customers to educate them about parental resources and ask them to donate to the ASACP Foundation. These donations will help the foundation to continue its online child protection mission. For example, in 2010, ASACP developed Restricted to Adults RTA labeling/filtering software to work with Android Apps. Safer Internet Day is organized by Insafe, which is co-funded by the E.U. Each year Insafe promotes safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world. In 2010, Safer Internet Day was celebrated through more than 500 events in 65 countries around the world. ASACP and the adult entertainment industry want to once again demonstrate their ongoing effort to protect children, by participating in this global event. “It is important that everyone works together to keep the Internet safe — especially for children,” ASACP CEO Joan Irvine stated. “Parents, businesses and governments all have a responsibility in this process.” “While parents have a responsibility to educate their children and install parental controls on computers and mobile phones, the industry uses RTA as a vital tool that helps parents control what their kids can access,” she said. ASACP and industry leaders have produced several public service announcements to educate both parents and the industry about the use of the international award-winning Restricted to Adults (RTA) meta tag. To date, more than 2.5 million sites have voluntarily labeled with RTA and there are more than 6 billion monthly views to pages labeled with RTA. “ASACP and the adult entertainment industry are very proud of their contributions to RTA and online child safety,” Irvine added, saying that she wanted to thank all the companies that are participating in Safer Internet Day. … [Read more...]

EFF Claims Victory Against ‘Copyright Troll’ Attorney Evan Stone

6810c48799cfdfdecf33daf025296685

DALLAS, TX—The decision by Texas attorney Evan Stone to file a Notice of Dismissal Friday in Mick Haig Productions v Does 1-670 was today hailed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) as “another victory in [the] battle against flawed copyright lawsuits.” The lawsuit was filed in September of last year, accusing unnamed end users of illegally downloading Haig’s Der Gute Onkel. Stone, who recently said he “was born” to litigate these types of cases, was also labeled a “copyright troll” by EFF, which, along with Public Citizen (PC), was appointed by the court to act as counsel for the unnamed defendants in the case. In his two-page filing, which is roundly being characterized as “petulant” and whiny,” Stone took equally sharp aim at EFF and PC, implying that they were incompetent in terms of intellectual property law, and referring to them as “a trio of attorneys renowned for defending internet piracy and renowned for their general disregard for intellectual property law.” According to Stone, he had to dismiss the case, explaining, “Four months after the initial filing of this case, with little chance of discovery in sight, Plaintiff feels it has lost any meaningful opportunity to pursue justice in this matter.” Stone places the blame for insurmountable delays not only on opposing counsel, but also the court. Writing that he had filed a Motion for Expedited Discovery shortly after the initial filing, Stone complained, “Instead of instructing these attorneys to engage Plaintiff’s counsel in a Discovery conference which would allow the case to move forward, the Court ordered attorneys for the defense to respond to Plaintiff’s Motion, for which the Court has yet to make a ruling.” Stone further complained that the response by the defense was “absurd” as well as “beyond the scope of the Discovery Motion at issue… Moreover, the Defense provided no alternatives for Plaintiff to cure the harm inflicted on it by Defendants.” According to EFF and PC, however, Stone is personally responsible for doing in his own case. In a letter sent Jan. 26 to Stone by Paul Alan Levy of the Public Citizen Litigation Group, who, along with EFF’s Matt Zimmerman and Corynne McSherry, was one of the defendant’s counsel appointed by the court, Levy accused Stone of committing a serious abuse of the discovery procedure by subpoenaing ISPs before the court had even issued a ruling on Stone’s Motion for Expedited Discovery. “We intend to ask Judge Godbey to order you to provide a sworn accounting of your actions as described above,” wrote Levy. “And, in the meantime, we have in mind to ask the Court to order you to contact every ISP to whom you have sent a subpoena in this case to tell them that the subpoenas have been withdrawn, to order you to cease making use of any identifying information you have received, and to stop communicating with your clients unless we give you permission to do so or pending … [Read more...]

FSC Sends Letter to GAC, ICANN Board

Free Speech Coalition Logo

CANOGA PARK, Calif. — Free Speech Coalition (FSC) on Friday sent a letter to the Board of Directors of Internet regulator ICANN and to its Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), urging the Board not approve Internet registrar ICM’s application for the proposed .XXX sponsored top level domain (sTLD). “This is an extremely comprehensive and powerful document,” FSC Executive Director Diane Duke said. “FSC thanks Jeffrey Douglas, Tom Hymes and especially Reed Lee who worked long hours ensuring not only that all topics were covered, but also that they were meticulously referenced.” FSC has opposed the adoption of .XXX domains for adult online business since 2004. The adult industry trade association is asking that the ICANN Board and GAC will consider the document prior to the ICANN Board meeting scheduled to be held in March, in San Francisco. When it rejected ICM’s .XXX sTLD proposal in 2007, the ICANN Board articulated five reasons, virtually all of which related to concerns that had been expressed by ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC). After that decision, ICM Registry invoked ICANN’s process of an Independent Review Panel (IRP). Utilizing the information provided by ICM’s application and testimony that included ICM representation — but no adult entertainment industry representatives — the IRP determined that ICM had met the “sponsorship community” requirements for the sponsored TLD. At the last ICANN Board meeting held in December, the Board expressed intent to move into a contract with ICM for a .XXX sTLD but, as required by ICANN’s by-laws, must consider GAC advice. The .XXX consideration now moves to consultations between the ICANN Board and the GAC. On a number of occasions, the GAC has voiced concern over a .XXX sTLD. FSC’s letter focuses primarily on the context of those concerns raised by GAC. The GAC took issue with the promises included in ICM’s proposal, challenging ICM’s ability to follow through with those commitments. ICM claims that .XXX will help combat child pornography and protect vulnerable communities. ICM asserts that $10 of every $60 registration will go to combat child pornography. However in its letter, FSC documents where that very same $10 has been promised to help the adult industry for everything from 2257 to piracy. Moreover FSC quotes the founder of Safekids.com — one of the oldest and most enduring web sites for Internet safety — stating, “As an Internet safety advocate, my concern about .XXX is that it could give parents a false sense of security.” Also in its letter, FSC pointed out the promises to protect intellectual property seem to extend more to mainstream companies than the businesses ICM purports to represent. ICM’s “Sunrise for .XXX” initial rights protection document offers domain parking options to only non-adult companies. The letter challenges ICM’s intent to “take appropriate measures to restrict access to illegal and … [Read more...]
