BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Tyler Myers scored 2:01 into overtime to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 win over the on Monday night.

Tyler Ennis scored twice and Ryan Miller made 26 saves as Buffalo earned its season-best fifth consecutive home win. The Sabres (33-29-8) also improved to 9-2-2 in their past 13 games and jumped ahead of Winnipeg into ninth place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind Washington in the race for the final playoff spot.

The Sharks got their go-ahead goal 38 seconds into the third when Dan Boyle unleashed a hard shot from the point that Couture tipped past Dubnyk while on the power play.

DETROIT (AP) — Pavel Datsyuk scored with 5 seconds left to give the 22nd , 2-1 over the on .

Jeff Skinner and Justin Faulk scored 3:03 apart in the first period for the Hurricanes, who let a two-goal lead slip away before regrouping to beat the Pacific Division leaders.

The Southeast Division’s last-place team won its second straight, earned points in its sixth consecutive game and improved to 10-3-1 in its last 14 at home.

Dan Boyle and Brent Burns scored in a 2:26 span of the third for the Sharks, who fell to 1-2-1 midway through their nine-game road swing and have lost five of seven overall.

Justin Peters made 35 saves in his first start since Jan. 7 and third of the season. His first victory came in a battle of the backups against Thomas Greiss, who stopped 22 shots in place of Antii Niemi.

A solid dump-in by Jaroslav Spacek started the sequence that led to Jokinen’s winner. Drayson Bowman cycled the puck out to Jamie McBain at the blue line, and McBain unloaded a blast that Jokinen tipped past Greiss.

CANADIENS 4, SABRES 3, SO

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais scored shootout goals, and Carey Price stopped both attempts he faced in Montreal’s victory over Buffalo.

Chris Campoli, Scott Gomez and Tomas Kaberle scored in regulation to help the Canadiens win their third straight road game and improve to 5-1-1 in their past seven overall. Montreal (24-25-10) also jumped out of a logjam of three teams with 56 points and alone into 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Tyler Ennis, Tyler Myers and Robyn Regehr scored for Buffalo. The Sabres, 0-3-1 in their past four, at least salvaged a point after Ennis forced overtime by scoring with 8:05 left in the third period.

After Pacioretty scored on the Canadiens’ first shootout attempt, Desharnais sealed it by driving across the front of net before stuffing a shot just inside the left post, pushing it past Ryan Miller’s pad.

Price stopped Brad Boyes and Jason Pominville in the shootout, and finished with 27 saves through overtime.

CAPITALS 2, PANTHERS 1

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Alexander Semin scored the tiebreaking goal with 6:33 to go, and Tomas Vokoun made 22 saves against his former team help Washington beat Florida.

Alex Ovechkin also scored to help the Capitals move two points behind the first-place Panthers in the Southeast Division. Tomas Fleischmann scored for Florida and Jose Theodore stopped 39 shots.

Semin took a slap shot from above the right circle, and the puck deflected off the stick of Florida’s Sean Bergenheim and past Theodore’s glove.

The Capitals, who won for the first time in four games, tied the score on Ovechkin’s power-play goal at 4:47 of the third. It was his team-leading 24th goal of the season.

JETS 4, BRUINS 2

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Bryan Little scored twice in the third period to help Winnipeg beat Boston.

Blake Wheeler had a goal and two assists, and Alexander Burmistrov also scored for Winnipeg.

Jordan Caron and David Krejci scored for Boston.

Coming off a shootout victory in Minnesota on Thursday night, the Jets won games on consecutive nights for the first time this season.

AVALANCHE 3, OILERS 1

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Gabriel Landeskog and Mark Olver each had a goal and an assist and Colorado beat Edmonton to snap a two-game skid.

Erik Johnson also scored and Ryan O’Reilly had three assists for Colorado. The Avalanche are 3-1-2 in their last six and 29-26-4 overall.

Semyon made 26 saves, allowing only Ryan Jones’ goal.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist to help Calgary Flames beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 .

Halak recorded his fifth shutout of the season and 21st of his career. He improved to 15-8-5 and has started six of the last seven games. Halak has four shutouts in his last seven starts. St. Louis has a league-best 10 shutouts.

St. Louis improved to a league-best 22-3-4 at home and has not lost a regulation game at home since dropping a 5-2 decision to Chicago on Dec. 3.

The Blues moved into a tie with Vancouver for second in the Western Conference with 67 points.

SENATORS 2, ISLANDERS 1, OT

OTTAWA (AP) — Mark Eaton scored 2:35 into overtime in his 600th NHL game.

Eaton took a pass from Milan Jurcina and put the puck into an open right side for his 24th NHL goal — his first since Nov. 28, 2009.

Matt Martin scored the tying goal in the third and Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves for New York, which is on a 5-1-1 run.

Zack Smith scored a short-handed goal late in the second for Ottawa, which has lost five in a row, the last four in regulation.

Ottawa’s Craig Anderson stopped 30 shots in his 16th straight start.

PANTHERS 2, JETS 1

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Sean Bergenheim scored a go-ahead goal in the second period.

Kris Versteeg also scored a goal for Florida, while Scott Clemmensen stopped 20 shots.

Bryan Little scored for Winnipeg and Chris Mason made 28 saves.

Winnipeg lost for the ninth straight time when playing the second of consecutive games. The Jets are have been shut out twice and outscored 36-7 in those.

The Jets tied it at 1 on Little’s goal in the second. Little grabbed a loose puck and took a wrist shot from the left circle. The puck went between Clemmensen’s pads at 11:29.
