EDISON, N.J. — Galaxy Publicity’s Misty Stone, Laurie Vargas, Giana Taylor, Christina Copafeel, James Bartholet and director Alexander DeVoe will appear at Exxotica NY.

They will be signing memorabilia and greeting fans at the Galaxy Publicity/Alexander DeVoe booth.

While open to the public, the expo will also feature “Trade Only” hours reserved for the adult industry.

Among the stage shows is “This Ain’t Inside the Actor’s Studio XXX” hosted by James Bartholet. A parody of the famous James Lipton program, Bartholet will sit down with Seka and Taylor Wayne for an interview.

REDMOND, Wash. — Bing is growing, and that’s good news for adult.

The upstart search engine from tech giant Microsoft has been saturating the market with a $100 million marketing campaign that’s showing dividends. Since its May launch, Bing has grown about 1.3 percent, laying claim to 9.3 percent of search engine traffic.

Meanwhile, Yahoo’s share has dropped 0.8 percent, and mighty Google’s stranglehold on the market has relaxed to 64.6 of searches in the United States.

Those numbers may sound small, but according to leading tech analyst Erick Schonfeld, it’s a big deal.

“Bing showed the only significant gain, while everyone else stayed relatively flat,” he said. “That $100 million marketing campaign must be working, or maybe it’s the improvements Bing is making to the search experience, or maybe it’s both. Whatever it is, it is translating into nearly a half-point market share gain every month for the past three months.”

Bing’s improvements include a more attractive landing page and fast, accurate results that have been getting solid reviews since its launch. In addition, Bing recently rolled out a visual search engine for images.

But as any savvy adult industry professional knows, Bing has been surprisingly friendly to adult since its inception. Bing video search has emerged as one of the best adult search tools on the planet, and Microsoft added a porn-specific subdomain at Explicit.Bing.net to help system administrators easily filter out adult content.

Some tech pundits even suspected that Microsoft was intentionally courting fans of adult entertainment by purchasing the keyword “pornography,” so that when users did a Google search for the term, they’d see a text advertisement for Bing. Microsoft roundly denied the claim.

Bing and Yahoo search merged over the summer, with plans to launch a new, unified competitor to Google in early 2010. Under the deal, Bing would power Yahoo search.

The magazine was a typical girlie book of the mid-1930s, straight out of the Great Depression. I came across the reproduction of its cover while searching the web for something else entirely. The publication’s title was Cupid’s Capers, and it cost a quarter. The cover art was a Vargas-style pinup girl doing an anatomically implausible headstand while wearing a smile and lingerie that was all but transparent. Basically Cupid’s Capers was the Depression-era equivalent of soft porn. Even in those hard times folks would fork over 25 cents for some cheerful—if extremely modest—erotic thrills.

I would have thought nothing more of Cupid’s Capers if I hadn’t spotted a small blue eagle logo on the right-hand side of the cover and red initials NRA. Today we think of the NRA as the National Rifle Association, but back in the days of Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal, it meant the National Recovery Administration. That NRA was the central federal agency empowered to develop voluntary agreements on work hours, pay rates and retail prices. It played a crucial role in the nation’s recovery after that first 20th-century economic collapse, and was extremely popular with the working poor and the unemployed.

Much of the success of the NRA was that, in its negotiations, it not only attempted to give all those involved a fair shake, but it was seen to be evenhanded and trustworthy. The NRA blue eagle (in fact a stylized thunderbird) became the trusted logo of the New Deal all across the country. Stores displayed it on their doors and in their front windows to show they supported Roosevelt and his efforts to save the nation. Manufacturers began using the blue eagle on their products and packaging. It became a powerful symbol of the trust and loyalty that FDR enjoyed among American workers in the hungry 1930s, and created the impression that everyone, on all levels of society, was united in a common purpose as they crawled out from the economic wreckage. Even the publishers of Cupid’s Capers were pitching in and doing their soft-porn bit for the national recovery, if only by keeping the working stiff happy.

The same thing seems almost unimaginable today. We may have saturation 24-hour news, but here in this 21st-century depression, everything is deceptively normal. No Okies, no railroad bums, no soup kitchens, none of the stuff from the ancient newsreels and black-and-white photos. While friends and acquaintances lose jobs, and look increasingly more desperate, the modern world goes on as if there’s no cause for concern.

If a recovery is under way, we are not being shown that it’s happening. We’re three-quarters into the first year of the Obama presidency and very little of what was tacitly promised during the 2008 campaign is particularly visible. No awe-inspiring public works, no dramatic job creation, no easier consumer credit—no clear and present hope for the unemployed and evicted, or millions of small and shaky businesses.

And just imagine if some porn operation copied Cupid’s Capers, and displayed a logo declaring the producers’ support for Barack Obama’s national economic recovery. All hell and worse would undoubtedly break loose. The story would generate a prime furor on cable news, with the religious right screaming bloody murder and prophesying the destruction of family values. Keith Olbermann would editorialize, and Bill Maher would use it as part of his monologue. The porn producer would be quietly pressured into removing the endorsement, and anything but a sense of national solidarity would be achieved.

Yet, national solidarity means exactly that. It means the entire country working together, not just the parts that moralists and bigots deem acceptable. Sure, we need truck drivers and factory workers, customer-service employees and marketing execs, all patriotic and pulling, but we also need the efforts of strippers, rock musicians, writers and porn stars. We are also Americans. We have all been included in the problem, and we all have to become part of the solution. The publishers of Cupid’s Capers realized this three generations ago. Shame on us, if it can’t be accepted now.

WASHINGTON — The Federal Communications Commission’s chairman will propose “rulemaking” for “net neutrality” in an attempt to force Internet service providers to treat the flow of web content equally.

Chairman Julius Genachowski’s speech on Monday will strive to “codify into new regulations the principle of nondiscrimination,” according to a source speaking to The New York Times.

The issue is a hot one with the online adult industry, because most content is driven by video-on-demand.

Proponents of net neutrality say ISPs should be barred from blocking or slowing traffic based on content.

But the ISPs argue the increasing volume of bandwidth-heavy Internet applications require active management of their networks that drive up costs. They also claim that net neutrality could stifle innovation.

Genachowski is expected to announce plans for the agency to open a formal rule-making process on the issue at its October meeting. The rules would have to be approved by a majority of the FCC’s five-person board.

Genachowski’s speech on Monday will be delivered at the Brookings Institute.

He Said: Cheating, when you whittle it down to its essence, is an expression of contempt. It’s how we tell each other in sometimes subtle, other times obvious ways that we do not need our partners. It is how we punish each other for the frustrations we have in our common lives. Sometimes we cheat to hurt our partners; other times we do so to hurt ourselves. We nurture other relationships to fill gaps or needs that remain unfulfilled with our partners and find substitutes for contributions to our lives that we wish they would meet, but unfortunately do not. We cheat out of frustration, desire, anger, and resentment. To be fair, good things can sometimes come out of cheating. In the end, though, cheating inevitably hurts at least one person — and usually more than that.

For men, physical cheating is more painful than emotional cheating because we, as a gender, relate to everything in a physical way first. This is our nature. We are possessive and protective of our partners in a way that is reminiscent of cavemen protecting cavewomen with spears and clubs. Sure, we don’t mind if you take a male friend shopping (secretly, some of us are thanking him). If we are out, though, we are always watching other men and aware of who is paying attention to you. When we leave you alone at an event, we scan the room to take an inventory of the men that noticed you, speak to you, and come close to you. Does it seem a little silly? Possibly. In our defense, though, we can’t help it; it’s instinctual.

The reality is that while we don’t care with whom you shop, talk, eat, or text, we do care deeply about who looks at you, smells your hair, holds your hand, and takes you to bed. For men, the act of learning about our partner’s infidelity is, simply put, emasculating — and the rejection that comes with this realization is painful. This pain, in turn, is only magnified by how much we care for our partners.

In the end, the reason that physical cheating is so painful is that we can envision it. We can play back the rendezvous in our mind over and over and relive our partner seeking comfort or escape in the arms of another. When you compare this to emotional cheating, it is clear why physical cheating is more painful to deal with, and why physical cheating leads to the end of so many relationships.

She Said: Without a doubt, when it comes to cheating, sexual indiscretions are the lesser of the two evils — not because it’s necessarily easier to forgive a partner’s one-night stand, but because an emotional affair generally means the cheater has already thrown in the towel on your relationship.

Take a recent political cheating scandal, for example. When Governor Mark Sanford revealed that he had been cheating on his wife, I was surprised to find that some people had sympathy for him on the grounds that he was in love with his mistress. Now, he says he’s going to try falling back in love with his wife (how noble!). I won’t be holding my breath.

Here’s my issue with this claim, whoever makes it — there is no such thing as accidentally getting a little too drunk and carrying on a passionate love affair. There’s no emotional cheating equivalent to a one-night stand. It’s generally quite a calculated and elaborate production to hide one.

That’s not to say that physical cheating happens only under those one-night-only inebriated conditions, but purely physically cheating generally does — if you’re having a long-term sexual affair or hooking up with a friend who isn’t your significant other, chances are that it’s either a result of or has resulted in emotional infidelity as well.

So the problem isn’t that one kind of cheating is more or less forgivable than the other — it’s that forgiving and forgetting isn’t an option when your partner has emotionally cheated. Your partner doesn’t want to be forgiven — they want out. They want out but can’t or won’t pull the trigger, consciously or subconsciously forcing their partner to be the one who calls it quits.

In Governor Sanford’s case, neither he nor is wife is doing that — instead she’ll try to forgive him for his infidelity while he tries to fall in love with her. I can fathom forgiving and moving past a boyfriend’s one-night stand, but I don’t know a single couple who has been able to continue dating after an emotional infidelity — especially when, as in the governor’s case, the cheater needs to make a concerted effort to fall back in love with his significant other.

Chances are if you’ve even had a passing interest in adultporn over the past 24 years, you’re familiar with Nina Hartley.

Perhaps it was herinnocent sexuality in this film that caused acclaimed director Jim Holliday toselect her for the cast of 1989′s SororityPink, in which Nina plays one of the sorority girls who are looking tofurther their education. Nina would continue to be cast by Holliday for severalof his college-themed titles, and would return for appearances in Sorority Pink 2, Sorority Sex Kittens 2 and SororitySex Kittens 3.

Sadly, much of Nina’s work from the 80s has yet to appear on DVD. One can onlyhope that studios will take more of an interest in releasing her early workonto the digital format. Some titles that deserve a DVD pressing include Educating Nina, Debbie Duz Dishes and TenLittle Maidens, to name just a few. Nina established herself as one of thetop porn stars in the 1980s, but it was her work in the 1990s that made her alegend, and got her named to the XRCO Hall of Fame in 1996.

During the 90s, Nina stopped being just “another one of the girls”and started being something special in each title in which she appeared. Her name and/or picture on a box cover alone would often guarantee success for an adult picture. If there was a year in which Nina made the transition from adult star to adult legend, it may very well have been in 1991, when she delivered two knockout performances in a pair of very popular features.

In Debbie Does Wall Street, Nina stars asthe title character, who does Marc Wallice and Buck Adams in a wild opening sequence set in a barn. Later in the film, she takes on K.C. Williams and Randy Spears in a hot office three-way, and finishes up the picture with an orgy sequence which proves that Nina can get just as nasty as her fellow adult actresses. Also during 1991, Nina played a loving wife in Hate To See You Go, whose husband (played by Randy Spears) was trying to kill her. Of course, Nina manages to get the upper hand on hubby, and have some fun of her own (with Eric Price) along the way!

In the mid-90s, legends would collide when Nina teamed up with the beautiful Ashlyn Gere in Ashlyn Rising. Ms.Hartley plays Ashlyn’s sex therapist who, of course, has her own special prescription for the young Ms. Gere. Part of her therapy includes making Ashlyn watch Anna Malle and Hank Armstrong go at each other, and even provides some pointers for the couple along the way. Later, of course, Nina and Ashlyn find some quiet time for themselves in a hot girl/girl coupling.

In 1997, Nina showed that she wasn’t afraid to face the inevitable issue of aging in All About Eva, the story of a veteran porn star and the young talent (played by Julie Rage) who wants to take her position as the queen of porn. 1997 also marked Nina’s appearance in a major mainstream release, Paul Thomas Anderson’s acclaimed Boogie Nights, which is loosely based on the story of John Holmes. Nina plays (what else?) a horny wife who is not exactly faithful to her husband(William H. Macy).and not exactly shy about her infidelity either!

In 1998, Nina appeared in a number of erotic supporting roles, including a particularly hot appearance as the neighbor of Cheyenne Silver in director Bud Lee’s Carnal Witness, in which Nina introduces the young star to the wonders of lesbian sex. The end of the decade didn’t result in any less screen time for Nina, as she took on the lead character in two major 1999 features from director Bob Chinn. In Hard Bound, Nina played a wealthy socialite who found herself broken down on a deserted road and forced to accept the help of a country bumpkin (Dale DaBone) to find her way back to civilization. Bad Penny found Nina running away from her new husband (James Bonn), donning a black wig and shacking-up with bad boy Tony Tedeschi, in a secluded motel. 1999 also would prove that Nina had a sense of humor, playing the aptly named “Dr.Goodhead” in Veronica Hart’s Booby Trap. Once again paired up with Dale DaBone, Nina is given the film’s final scene to show off her talents, letting her hair down (quite literally) but keeping her heels and stockings on for a great conclusion to a funny film.

Nina Hartley has used her position as one of the world’s most popular adult stars to advocate sex education and sexual freedom among both couples and singles. She is a strong supporter of the swinging lifestyle and endorsing it in public. GENEVA — The World Intellectual Property Organization decided the domains SexyWebcam.mobi and SexyWebcam.tv must be transferred to Barcelona-based AZ Interactive, which established SexyWebcam.com in 1998.WIPO’s appointed sole panelist, James A. Barker, came to the decision on Sept. 3.

While not identical, Barker found that disputed domain names were confusingly similar. In addition, the respondent provided no evidence proving the argument that SexyWebcam is “made up of conjoined common English words that are descriptive or suggestive.”

The panel also rejected the respondent’s claim to “first come, first serve” rights over the domains because the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy offers no grounds for that.

Barker decided that the disputed domains were registered and used in bad faith for several reasons. Firstly, because of AZ Interactive’s longevity as an established business and because both parties offer adult content online regardless of the respondent’s intent to expand its scope of business.

In addition, Barker referred to the previous registrant’s contact information as “unclear and cryptic” and that the Madrid, Spain address listed suggests a connection with Spain and therefore a direct awareness of the Spanish market.

AZ Interactive also has registered the sites SexyWebcam.com, SexyWebcam.net, SexyWebcam.org, SexyWebcam.us and SexyWebcam.es. The company owns trademarks, registered in Spain, for SexyWebcam.com since July 2005. The websites offer adult content targeted at the Spanish market.

According to the WIPO ruling, SexyWebcam.mobi was registered in October 2006 and SexyWebcam.tv in June 2006, however both sites were parked.

The disputed domains were registered in Florida, with a previous registrant of SexyWebcam.mobi listed as Juan Luis Abian with a contact address in Madrid.
